An Open Letter about the Rising Cost of Whey Protein from Z Natural Foods

2 min read time Nov 13, 2024

Description

The team at Z Natural Foods works very hard to deliver you, our valued customer, with the highest quality functional foods, with limitless application in their most versatile form to support your lifestyle.

We strive to do this at the best price possible in order to deliver you with unbeatable value.

With that, and as some of you may already know, the prices of whey protein have sharply increased.  Unfortunately, this is completely out of our control.

A Spike in Demand Has Shocked the Whey Protein Market

The protein market operates similarly to other commodity markets, with prices fluctuating based on global supply and demand. While we aim to maintain steady prices, the recent whey protein demand has been unusually high, affecting our ability to source whey at the previously lower rates.

Whether the cause of this is an increase in farming costs, rising energy costs, or a spike in demand because of new uses such as a surge in the popularity of medications like Ozempic (which often require a protein-rich diet), the result is the same – an unfortunate increase in our product cost.

Our Promise to Our Customers

We strive to be transparent about our pricing decisions and keep you informed about what’s happening in the market. Z Natural Foods is built on maintaining the purest, best quality foods available. For this reason, we won’t compromise on the purity of our product that you order.

Why Are Some Companies Selling Whey at Lower Prices?

For example, you may notice that some brands may still offer whey protein at lower prices. In most cases, these companies are likely selling aging inventory (older protein) purchased before the recent surge in market value. Once they deplete this stock, they’ll likely face the same increase in sourcing costs.

Additionally, you may also notice some brands will have lower prices but, when comparing apples to apples, this does not mean the quality of the lower-priced product is the same. Oftentimes, we have seen brands sell their products containing a certain % of protein and they are not accurately describing what they are delivering to the customer, potentially misleading consumers.

Lastly, be aware of some sellers that will blend Whey Protein Isolate with Whey Protein Concentrate in order to bring their costs down.

Superior Quality and Purity

We believe in providing top-quality products at fair prices and we maintain the integrity of the whole food complex whenever possible. After all, we believe it is not just the correct approach to “natural foods” – it's the only approach.

Plus, it’s simply the right thing to do.

As a result, we absorb as much of the cost increase as possible, whenever possible.

While we’ve had to raise our prices, we’re committed to adjusting them downward as soon as the market value for whey decreases.

We hope you understand these changes, and we sincerely value your continued support as we strive to offer the best quality and value possible.
