  • Years ago, having read of the Japanese use of shiitake mushrooms to boost the immune system, I bought fresh shiitake mushrooms from the local grocery when I got sick, and really felt the immune-booting effects (in contrast to echinacea, which makes me feel nothing). I adopted the practice of sonsuming fresh shiitake whenever I was starting to get sick. Unfortunately, fresh shiitake is hard to find. I can only find dried shiitake nowadays, and in my subjective opinion dried shiitake is 10%-15% as effective as fresh. But that is still something. I do think shiitake boots the immune system.
