Men's General Health
In Western medicine, andropause is characterized by the decline of several hormones like testosterone, growth hormone, IGF-1, DHEA, and melatonin, impacting body composition, energy, muscle strength, and cognitive functions (Harman et al., 2001, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism). Unlike menopause in women, andropause does not involve the cessation of a physiological process like menses, making it distinct (Wu et al., 2008, Aging Male). It is also referred to as Aging-Associated Androgen Deficiency (AAAD) or Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male (ADAM).
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) attributes the etiology of andropause to deficiencies in kidney Qi and kidney essence, key indicators of health and longevity (Chen et al., 2014, Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine). In TCM, the kidney essence is essential for growth, development, reproduction, and sexuality, offering a holistic perspective on andropause (Liu et al., 2013, Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine).
