An Eye for Details: Consistency is king

5 min read time Sep 17, 2020

Description

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make everyday is a lack of understanding on…

How they prioritize their superfoods and herbal remedies

I can say with great confidence that most people are too concerned with small details and allow the important components to go by the wayside.

Below, I will explain the 3 habits everyone must do in order to achieve success with their health. Please keep in mind these are not in any specific order of importance.

1. Don’t get caught up in the “marketing hype”:

This is such a huge challenge for people to understand. The power of media and especially social media has allowed a tsunami of both good and bad information made easily available to the general public. Even worse, is that it has allowed self-proclaimed guru’s who know nothing to give advice.

This has set a very dangerous stage as most people follow advice based on what “sounds” good to them and not on true facts. I am sorry to say that most companies choose the path of least resistance. What you see more times than not are companies criticizing why everyone else is so bad instead of talking about why their company stands above the rest. The term for this is “smoke and mirrors”. It is easier to criticize others rather than prove yourself.

If you read blogs and listen to videos carefully you will see and hear many of the “issues” these people talk about are so small and irrelevant that there is no possible way it will have that great an impact on the end result.

I will use cacao as a great example:

It is true that there can be a slightly different phytochemical makeup depending on the species of this superfood. But as long as you have a high quality cacao coming from an area where it is natively grown like South America, and properly prepared, you will see the same nourishing benefits.

The small difference between species is not going to be enough to show a substantial difference in results. This is simply an excuse for a company to charge you more money. Think about this very carefully...

Do you really believe, you will wake up one day and say to yourself, “ Wow, i can really feel my telomeres lengthening from that specific species of cacao that had a little bit more resveratrol in it”?

I assure you not.

2. There is no such thing as perfect:

I have said this in many articles, blogs and videos because I believe it is so important. It just can’t be repeated enough. Because of the state of the environment around the world, there is no longer a perfectly clean place or food. All foods, from all over the world, have some heavy metals, pesticides and other natural residues within them simply because of what has happened to the environment:

The air, water and soil are all polluted. Does this mean the food is bad or harmful?

-- No, of course not.

These foods are just as nourishing as they ever were, but much like humans and animals, plants have had to adapt to their surroundings in order to survive.

Plants take from the soil and air, in order to nourish themselves, and, that is what they provide to us for nourishment. This goes for all foods across the board, whether it is a superfood or a common everyday food like apples, everything has been effected.

We seem to put superfoods and herbs on this pedestal and hold a higher standard for them.

Yet, I am willing to bet…

When you are in your local grocery store
you don’t ask to see a lab test result for
your apples, oranges and bananas.

Interesting how that works, considering the average person will consume 5 to 10 times the amount of these “common foods” compared to superfoods over a lifetime.

I am simply trying to put things into perspective. Let me be clear, I think it is very important for companies to test for all of these different contaminants to make sure the food is as clean as possible and below the established allowed quantity . The current state of our environment is what it is.  Nothing is or ever will be perfectly clean and pure again.

As I see it, you have 2 choices:

  1. You can either give your body the nourishment it needs to adapt and thrive, or,

  2. you can live in fear and starve.

If you pick the ladder of the two, it means more for me, and, I am a big eater! And therefore I thank you for the extra food on my plate.

3. Consistency is king:

I believe the one area I get the most questions and concerns about, more than anything else, it is in regards to how we use these foods and how much of them do we need.

I will make this as simple as possible. Let’s say, for argument’s sake, there was a perfect way (time of day, amount to use and what to mix it with) to use each and every food.

Here is the problem, If you don’t apply the most basic principles to getting well, then time of day, amount, and, formula won’t mean a thing. Remember at the beginning of this article I talked about how so many people focus too much on what is not important?  This is the perfect example.

The most important concept to understand and master is being consistent with what you do. Consistent means 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I assure you one thing, if you used these foods on a consistent basis (even if you use a different amount every day) for an entire year, you would see more profound results then if you used them 2-3 days a week, measuring out the exact amount each time.

Everything else takes second place to the habit of consistency. The habit of consistency builds much more than one’s health, it also builds:

  • Self worth,

  • Confidence, and

  • Teaches discipline.

You can’t purchase these 3 results.

They must be built and earned over time through consistency. First get the basic fundamental habits down before you concern yourselves about the less important details. After you master the habit of consistency I think you will find the less important things to be truly irrelevant.

I hope this has helped to answer any questions, or clear up any confusion, in regards to how we should prioritize our daily practices. Please keep in mind, if applied correctly, these habits can roll over to other areas on your life like work, family and exercise. Therefore, if you want to be the king, it only takes one thing, consistency.

In great health,

Mike
