About Product
Instant Potato Flakes
Instant potato flakes were invented in the late 1940s by brothers Edward and Francis Asselbergs, originally from Belgium.
The brothers noticed how potatoes quickly became spoiled after harvesting, so they devised a method to preserve them.
They created a machine that would soon peel and cook the potatoes and then press them into flakes.
The flakes could then be dried and stored for a more extended period. In 1953, the brothers sold their invention to Ore Ida, which introduced flakes to the market.
Since then, instant potato flakes have become a staple in many households, and are often used to make mashed potatoes, potato pancakes, and other potato dishes. Flakes are also used in many commercial food products.
